Angela never expected to be the one guiding her parents through end-of-life planning, but when she realized they had no estate plan in place, she knew she had to step in—before it was too late.

Angela has found herself in the position that many women do midlife. She is balancing a full plate – caring for her family as her children begin heading off to college, working hard in her career, and helping to care for her aging parents. In the course of conversation with her father, she learns that her parents never established an estate plan.

Her first concern, especially since she is the one bringing her parents to doctor appointments, is that if they should ever suddenly fall ill and be unable to make decisions for themselves, without the proper documentation in place, she would not be able to speak on their behalf. She also wants her parents to have wills so that they remain in control of decisions about their assets. As in many cases of families who have never talked openly about money, she does not know the details of her parents’ finances, nor is she trying to pry.

At first, her parents are dismissive to the idea that they would need any professional financial guidance. They feel it is unnecessary since they have always managed their money without help. However, when Angela explains that it isn’t about whether or not they are capable of making good financial decisions, but it is about ensuring that their wishes would be legally respected during and after their final days, they agree to meet with us and learn about how we can help them.

We work with Angela and her parents to address their priorities and concerns. We reassure them that they are in control of the decision-making process and that our job is to ensure their financial affairs are well organized.

In these cases, people came to us at different points in their lives. Perhaps you can relate. Maybe you established a financial plan, but it has not been updated in years. Regardless of what planning may or may not have already been done, our caring advisors at Frisch Financial Group have the expertise to guide you through the process.
