An Improved IRS Tool Helps to Answer This Question
As Monday, April 15th approaches, we know that the IRS tax deadline for 2024 is around the corner and we need to prepare our federal and state income taxes. This year, after you have gone through the work of filing, you can use the IRS’s improved online tool to check your refund’s status.
The IRS has been working to make their “Where’s My Refund” tool more user-friendly. If you e-file your 1040 or 1040-SR, you can check the status within 24 hours via the online tool. If you mail your return, you can check on it after four weeks. By using your social security number or individual taxpayer ID number (ITIN), your filing status, and the exact amount of your refund, you can get updates specifically about your return. You can confirm that your return has been received, learn if the refund was approved and if the refund was sent out.
When you check the status of your return, you can also find out if you need to provide the IRS with additional information in writing or if you need to contact them about your refund. Alternately, you may want to use the IRS2Go mobile app for updates.
